CONCEPTUAL

This is a conceptual photography project I done. This project is named ‘Reflection’. I want to explore the idea that the way we treat and think about others can have a big impact on how they treat and think about us. I used a mirror and a glass of water to represent my idea. And I also used ‘hair’ as a way to represent emotions. This series of photography can be printed as posters or postcards.

The message of this piece is about “The way we treat and perceive others often influences the way they treat and perceive us.” If we approach others with hate and judgment, we are likely to receive the same treatment in return, vice versa. Besides the way people treat each others matters, ones emotions and attitude would also affect the people around you. The hair on the top right hand corner indicate the messiness of thought, the emotions you gives out to others.

‘Be water’ is a phrase that emphasises the importance of being adaptive and flexible.

It is clear and quiet in a glass, but if it is placed in another container, the shape of the water will change, and when there is wind or any other moment, it will ripple. So if a person is flexible and adaptive like water, it can get through challenges more easily and become stronger.

This piece is related to 'Reflection' because through observing water, we can understand how to ‘Be Water’.

Like the first piece, this piece has a similar message. Treating others with love will make them treat you with love as well. And if you ask for help, people will help you. You will eventually find that the world is beautiful.

In this piece, hair represents emotions and troubles. And I took these photographs using my phone and they are all selfies. It may be difficult to hide your troubles or complicated emotions so do not attempt to hide them, simply let them flow, face your fears and troubles and perhaps you will find a solution.
